BEFORE
This is the original living room. Little had changed since the building was built in 1935. However, the owner had curiously installed opaque glass, blocking the view to the outside. Radiators had been removed and discarded.

AFTER
The space is restored. New radiators were installed in the original custom niches built for that purpose. Glass was replaced with sound reducing laminated glass from Saint Gobain. Original hardware was repaired and restored. The original blinds were cleaned and returned to operating condition. Custom shelves with built-in lighting activate the long blank walls.

BEFORE
The photo shows the back corridor. It runs past the old servant's stair to a small servant's quarters. This space was open to the outdoors so there was a door separating this space from the rest of the flat.

AFTER
New insulated windows and matching wood flooring were added to extend the aesthetic of the main flat into the back hallway and bedroom, reinforcing a sense of continuity throughout the space. Awkward windows facing the exit stair were removed, creating a cleaner, more welcoming look. Custom wood panels, matching the kitchen cabinets, enclose the washer, dryer, water purifier, and on-demand water heater—an efficient use of space and one of many eco-friendly upgrades in the flat.
